Giovanni Pasini

Western Music
Youth Orchestra Conductor

Giovanni moved to Qatar in 2014, with more than 20 years of experience in the classical music industry, when he was appointed Principal Viola of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. He debuted in Katara Opera House with a soloistic appearance together with world renown cellist and personality Misha Maisky, to perform the Don Quixote by Richard Strauss. Since then he has been enjoying his partnership with QPO and interacting with Doha's cultural community.

Prior to this he has sat in the principal viola chair of a number of fine orchestras across the globe, such as the Opera de Lyon, La Monnaie (Brussels), BBC Philharmonic (Manchester), BBC Wales (Cardiff), RAI (Italian Radio National Orchestra), the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), the Orquestra Sînfonica do Estado de São Paulo (OSESP), the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), Symphonica Toscanini (Rome), Les Violons du Roy (Québec), and many others.

Looking always for new challenges, and motivated by the love for the architecture of a musical score inherited from his father, he is lately devoting himself to orchestra conducting. After coaching several youth and amateur orchestras in Malaysia and Australia since 2007, in 2012 he has won the selections for the Symphony Services Australia's Conductor Development Program, a wonderful experience that allowed him to expand his podium repertoire while conducting orchestras of the caliber of Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia and Sydney Sinfonia.

On September 2014 he has been appointed conductor of the newly formed Qatar Music Academy Youth Orchestra, a position that he has welcomed with enthusiasm and will allow him to infuse his knowledge and passion into the youngest musicians in the country.
